Planting trees in the city
Urban trees most often fail because of an undersized, compacted planting pit. We design tree pits with GreenBlue Urban systems that give roots space, water and air beneath pavements and roads.
A city tree doesn't fail because of the species. It fails because of the planting pit and the site.
Most city trees never reach maturity because their roots have no room: compacted soil, a shallow pit, no air and no water. Planting systems solve this beneath the pavement, while the tree above looks just as it always has.
Root-volume cells
Modular load-bearing frames beneath the pavement or roadway are filled with uncompacted soil and give the roots cubic metres of space instead of litres. They carry the traffic above while the soil below stays loose.
Stormwater capture
Stormwater from pavements and roads is directed into the root zone instead of the sewer. The tree gets water, the city relieves its drainage, and an aeration system keeps the soil alive.
Root and infrastructure protection
Root guides prevent lifted paving and damage to utilities, while underground anchoring replaces stakes and keeps the tree stable from day one without damaging the trunk.
Authorised GreenBlue Urban distributor
ARBORING is a distributor of urban tree planting systems by the British company GreenBlue Urban, installed in cities worldwide for more than 30 years. We offer planting-pit design, system specification by load and species, supply and installation supervision, as part of a complete service from site analysis to the mature tree.
Why it pays off for the city
A tree planted in a suitable system reaches maturity, does not lift the pavement and needs no replacement in ten years. The system is a one-off cost; the cost of replacements, remedial works and paving repairs recurs for the whole life of the avenue. For tenders we prepare the technical specification and bill of quantities.
Questions about urban planting
Why do urban trees fail?
Most often because of the planting pit: too little rootable soil, compacted soil without pores for air and water, and sealed surfaces that send rain into the drains. The tree stagnates for years, and its roots look for space beneath the pavement and lift it.
What are root-volume cells?
Modular load-bearing frames installed beneath pavements, car parks or roads and filled with uncompacted soil. The frame carries the load above, so the soil beneath stays loose and the roots get cubic metres of space instead of a few hundred litres.
Is a planting system worth the cost?
As a rule, yes, over the lifetime of an avenue. The system is a one-off cost, and the tree reaches maturity, does not lift the pavement and does not need replacing in ten years. Without a system, replacements, remedial work and pavement repairs keep recurring.
Let's talk about your trees
We work with cities, municipalities, public institutions, designers and owners of valuable trees. For a quote, send us the basics: which tree or planting it concerns, where it is and what worries you.
How a quote comes about
Price depends on the number of trees, the methods required and the depth of documentation, so we do not publish it in advance. After an introductory call and basic site details you receive a written quote with a clear price and timeline. For public-sector clients we prepare documentation in tender-ready form.
